Creating an Interesting Town to Explore.

Howdy, everyone!

So launching a demo was a lot more hectic than I expected, haha. Thanks to our lovely community I was able to use their feedback and quickly start improving the game. This past week there have been new features added and plenty of bug fixes which have made the game a lot more fun.

Fishing was added to the demo! You will only catch fish where you can see them swimming in the water. They're not just for ambience but they're actually interactable! Usually I'm not too keen on fishing in games because it's such a passive mechanic where you wait around for a fish to randomly bite, and it just feels like such a waste of time. Not in Zoe and the Cursed Dreamer. Right now there's only the Fishy fish, but in the full game you'll be able to catch a few different types of fish, with unique species living in the game's dungeons / areas.

New interactions have been created! These do a much better job of explaining the characters. Specifically Teddy and Truffles, and Sue. I want the characters to be unique and memorable, so I put a lot of effort into these interactions and people seem to love them. I'm especially proud of Sue's introduction as it really says a lot more about her character and who she is.

Selena's introduction is coming soon, but with what I have planned, it's going to require a new enemy and a musical score. It's going to be fun. Lafo is getting a new one soon as well. His dialogue was the first in the game that I wrote, and I'm quickly learning how to make characters more interesting. His will involve frogs looting the village to supply the war effort, for those that are familiar with my livestreams.

Spells have been added! Zoe and the Cursed Dreamer takes place in a magical world with an abundance of various spells and magical abilities. I've added two spells to the demo, Fireball and Summon Skelly, to give a taste of some of the magic you'll be able to cast, and more are expected soon. I really enjoy the Summon Skelly spell, which spawns in a minion that fights with you, and I'm looking forward to making even stronger summoned creatures in the full game.

I've added a menu to rebind controls, for those with fancy keyboards or if you don't agree with my choice of keys. Along with several bug fixes that should improve the quality of your gameplay!

I'm currently working on more content for the game which should be out soon. One of the most requested features has been a map to help navigation in the world. It's pretty much done I just need to add different markers for the various waypoints like Teddy's house or your home. This one was a lot of fun to make because I've actaully never created a map before. Doing new things are always fun. This will be in the next update.

And then I'm going to start working on new enemies for the game. I have a few planned that I'd like to implement, especially some larger sized more difficult and interesting enemies, such as the Brute, Spirit, and Assasshroom. They should really spice up the enemy roster a bit!

And I designed this new enemy that isn't expected in the game any time soon, but it's still so adorable that I have to show it off. You'll encounter these later in the game. They're variants of the sprout that have gotten more experienced from their numerous battles with the skellies as the game progresses.

Zoe and the Cursed Dreamer is currently on Kickstarter, so if you would like to get the full game at a Discounted price, or snag some exclusive content like art books or alpha builds of the game during development, then consider supporting the project!

See you soon!
